The Tres Montañas Tour:
A Fast-Paced, Two-Day, Advanced Adventure Through the mountains of Southern California!
for graduates of our level 3 training and those who want a truly challenging “post training ride”
The Tres Montañas (Three Mountains) tour is RawHyde Adventures' newest two-day expedition, designed specifically for Next Step (level 3) riders who crave a faster pace and more technical terrain. Over the course of two long days, we’ll cover approximately 450 miles of challenging dirt trails and twisty mountain roads, conquering three of Southern California’s most rugged mountain ranges. This isn’t just another ride - Tres Montañas is for riders who want to push their skills, endurance, and comfort zones on a high-intensity adventure through California’s best backcountry terrain.
Day 1: The Long Way to Frazier Mountain & Overnight in New Cuyama
Our adventure kicks off Monday morning as we leave RawHyde Ranch, taking the long way to reach Frazier Mountain, our first major challenge of the tour. Rather than heading directly to the mountain, we warm up with a mix of twisty paved roads and rugged dirt sections, offering a taste of the technical terrain to come. These early sections set the tone for the day, providing a solid mix of climbs, ruts, and fast-flowing dirt tracks before we arrive at the base of Frazier Mountain.
From there, we begin our ascent into high elevations, climbing through dense pine forests, crisp mountain air, and incredible ridgeline views. The descent is no less demanding, featuring loose terrain, ruts, and an off-camber path that will keep riders engaged from start to finish.
With Frazier Mountain behind us, we transition onto twisty mountain pavement and additional dirt sections, making our way toward New Cuyama. This leg of the ride is long and demanding, ensuring a full day in the saddle before we arrive at our overnight stop—a rustic campground with yurts, running water, and hot showers. Riders can relax by the firepit and enjoy camaraderie with fellow adventurers before heading to a local diner for a well-earned meal.
Day 2: Cottonwood Canyon, the Mountains Above Santa Barbara & PCH Return
After breakfast at the diner, we hit the road early, heading toward Mountain #2—Cottonwood Canyon. This section of the ride demands full concentration and technical prowess, as we navigate rocky climbs, sandy sections, and unpredictable terrain. Riders should be prepared for rapid elevation changes and challenging off-road conditions, making this leg one of the most physically and mentally demanding parts of the tour.
With Cottonwood Canyon behind us, we push forward to our third and final challenge—Santa Barbara’s coastal mountains. The final ascent takes us up rocky, rutted trails, rewarding us with stunning Pacific Ocean views as we crest the ridgelines. The descent is no easy feat, offering a mix of technical switchbacks and high-speed sections, making for a thrilling conclusion to this 450-mile adventure.
After completing the last mountain, we stop for lunch in the charming town of Los Olivos, where riders can enjoy a break and refuel before the final stretch of the journey. But we don’t just head back—we finish strong with a stunning ride along California’s iconic Pacific Coast Highway (PCH). This scenic route provides a perfect cooldown, allowing riders to enjoy the sweeping ocean views and coastal curves as we make our way back to RawHyde Ranch.
